Trafford College is consulting staff, students and parents about proposed changes to Foundation & Supported Learning Provision. Information on these changes and a form for comments can be found at: www.trafford.ac.uk/consultation The last day for comments is 11 March 2016.
Over the last 3 years Trafford College has seen a reduction in its funding by approximately £3M. This has made it necessary to review all areas of activity and streamline delivery of further education, whilst ensuring that students joining the college have clear pathways into further & higher education, apprenticeships and employment.
It is proposed that from the 16/17 academic year:
- Entry 1 level Supported Learning courses will no longer be offered as they do not map onto other courses offered at Trafford College.
- Supported Learning will be offered for learners aged 16 – 24 at Entry 2 & Entry 3 level, linked to vocational/employment pathways as opposed to independent living pathways.
- Remaining Foundation Learning provision will move to the Altrincham site to merge with the Foundation Learning department.
“Due to funding cuts over the last three years, we have to streamline our curriculum offer, but we have done this in a planned and considered manner that ensures learners have excellent courses that lead on to further study, apprenticeships and employment. In reviewing our Foundation and Supported Learning provision we are consulting with learners, their parents, staff and other local providers. The College is committed to supporting existing and prospective students with appropriate guidance to ensure they are given a full range of options and access to a course appropriate to their learning needs, whether they remain with us or enrol elsewhere. I am confident that, where required, suitable alternative provision can be accessed by our current and prospective learners within a reasonable distance.” Sir Bill Moorcroft
