Trafford College student Steven Stanton has become Trafford College’s latest success story after securing employment through the Big Hit employability programme, held at Old Trafford Cricket Ground, home of Lancashire County Cricket Club.
The Big Hit, now in its second year, is a successful employability initiative created by Trafford College in partnership with the Lancashire County Cricket Club, Trafford Council, the DWP and National Careers Service.
The programme guides learners through a series of workshops to enhance both their employability and work ready skills to address youth unemployment, with around 80% of previous participants securing employment since completing the programme. Throughout the duration of the employability course, Steven undertook a variety of workshop aimed at developing enterprise and
employability skills and was selected to attend a 4 day work placement opportunity at Trafford College in the Food & Beverage department where he helped deliver food service to both staff and students at the College’s Centre for Science & Technology.
As a result of Steven’s outstanding performance throughout his work experience, he was invited to interview and has since been offered the position of Apprentice Chef with Trafford College, Food and Beverage Manager, Tony McDonald believes he will succeed in, “Steven has worked incredibly hard during his time with us, he has equipped himself well and his work has always been to a high standard. The Big Hit programme is a great way for young people to enter the workplace as it gives learners a taster of a career path they would like to go into. I am extremely pleased to be in a position to offer this Apprenticeship to such a hard working young person, he has a truly bright future ahead of him.”
