Young Apprenticeship In Gas Utilities (14-16)GP-46-10
Course Details
This is a work experience based qualification, equipping learners with the skills required to progress within the Utilities industry. Learners gain work experience in the Gas Utility industry attending College for skills sessions, practice and underpinning knowledge.
The programme covers two General Engineering units along with three specific Gas Utilities units.
The programme includes practical skills and knowledge to meet the requirements of City and Guilds Engineering Certificate 2800 at Level 2 in Gas Operations.
Units include:
- Working in Engineering
- Engineering Technology
- Understanding Gas Business Operations
- Understanding Gas Technology Operations
- Customer Service Principles.
The programme and course focuses on gas operations relating to pipelines, mains, services and associated equipment from the beach to the meter.
Students will be provided with the necessary work clothes and personal protection equipment (PPE) along with the equipment required to complete the course.

Course Entry Requirements
Expected to achieve 5 GCSEs or more at grades A* - C, a school reference and a successful interview.
Course Assessment
Assessment includes two units that are tested through GOLA and three by detailed assignments.
Overall assessment is by a variety of methods, including observation of practical skills, oral questioning, written tests and reports, projects, and presentations.
Course Progression
The course and qualification provides a valuable and practical step into an advanced apprenticeship within the Utilities industry and/or the equivalent to 3 GCSEs.
Course Additional Information
The course takes place at the industrial partners premise and work sites along with Trafford College workshops and workrooms. Course delivery is carried out by industry specialists.
