By studying Health and Social Care you will benefit from regular trips which have included universities, museums and courts of law, as well as activity days in local sheltered housing accommodation.

BTEC First Diploma In Health & Social Care

A BTEC First Diploma is equivalent to four GCSEs grades A-C. It has been developed for students aged 16 and over with a career interest in the Health and Social Care industry. The qualification has been designed to be delivered in a work related context to allow learners to develop an understanding of the diverse and complex nature of the Health and Social Care sector.

Alongside the necessary academic qualifications, successful applicants will possess many personal attributes essential for the Health and Social Care field. These include good communication skills, the ability to follow instructions and ask for help when needed, the ability to show enthusiasm and effort and to work collaboratively with others. Students must have good attendance and punctuality both at College and on placement. Students must understand the importance of confidentiality in placement settings.

The Diploma includes 6 units, all are assignments. The units include:

Communication and Individual rights, Individual needs, Vocational Experience (this includes 60 hours in placement), Anatomy and Physiology, Lifespan Development and the Impact of Diet on Health

BTEC Introductory Diploma In Health & Social Care

The BTEC Introductory Diploma in Health and Social Care has been designed to provide a broad educational basis for further training, further education or for moving into appropriate employment within the health and social care sectors.

This qualification develops a range of employability skills, personal qualities and attitudes necessary for successfully working in a care environment. Skills in Health & Social Care will be developed and sector knowledge will be gained throughout the delivery of the qualification. Students may also gain a practical work experience placement.

The following units will be studied: Starting work in Health & Social Care; Working in Health & Social Care; Social Responsibility at Work; Personal Effectiveness; Images of People; Health and the Environment; Exploring Social Services.

The BTEC Extended Diploma is an exciting and challenging opportunity for young and enthusiastic people who would like to gain an insight into the careers available to them in health and social care.

This qualification comprises of 18 units over the 2 years, all are assignment based. The units in the first year include Communication and Values, Equality and Diversity, Health and Safety, Lifespan Development, Anatomy and Physiology and Sociology.

ENTRY TO CARE

The course has been designed to be flexible. At the start of your course you will be interviewed by your Personal Tutor and receive a personal learning plan. You will work in small groups and be expected to complete classwork and coursework to meet deadlines.

You will have the opportunity to take part in external visits and undergo work experience/residentials. You will study Literacy/Communications; Numeracy; ICT; Citizenship & Personal Development.

Key Skills Requirement:

To prepare you for a higher level course, employment or university you will be required to achieve a key skills qualification in Application of Number, Communication and ICT. These qualifications wil be studied at the appropriate level for your personal development/progression needs

Multi-professional Cadet Scheme In Partnership With The Skills Academy For Health North West

The Multi-Professional Cadet Scheme (Greater Manchester) is an exciting and challenging opportunity for young and enthusiastic people who would like to gain an insight into the careers available to them in health and social care.

Students will be expected to attend college for 3 days a week where they will study for a BTEC National Qualification (usually the Diploma). This qualification comprises of 18 units over the 2 years, all are assignment based. The units in the first year include Communication and Values, Equality and Diversity, Health and Safety, Lifespan Development, Anatomy and Physiology and Sociology.

For the remaining 2 days students will be based at Trafford General Hospital where they will be supported by a clinical educator, who is responsible for the co-ordination of the placements. During the time in the hospital students will gain a taste of real life in the Health Service and will be able to experience jobs first hand.
