Leaving School
International Baccalaureate Diploma
If you would like to gain an internationally recognised qualification that is equivalent of up to 6 A Levels then choose the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma. The IB Diploma is designed to give students a well rounded qualification that is recognised by some of the worlds leading universities. Students must choose from 6 subject areas which include English, French or Spanish, History or Psychology, Biology or Chemistry, Mathematics, and the Arts. This is an intense programme of study and students must be highly motivated with an enquiring mind and the ability to think independently whilst being open minded.
The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma is a challenging and prestigious programme of study which offers both breadth and flexibility for students. You must select one subject from each of the six groups, typically studying three in depth (at Higher Level) and three others at Standard Level. In this way, a healthy balance is maintained with students able to pursue areas of personal interest whilst still meeting university entrance requirements.
The 6 Subject Groups:
1. English
2. A second language (this could be a language you already study, or a new one)
3. Individuals and Society (History or Psychology)
4. Experimental Sciences (Biology or Chemistry)
5. Mathematics
6. The Arts (Film) or another subject from groups 1-5 above.
You must also take the following 3 compulsory core units
Theory of Knowledge: You will learn how to analyse evidence and express yourself in rational argument.
Creativity, Action and Service: This part of the programme encourages you to get involved in creative and cultural activities such as the theatre or music, sports and community service.
Extended Essay: You will be required to investigate a chosen topic of interest and write a 4,000 word essay
