Engineering
If you have a firm grasp of maths and science, and enjoy finding solutions to complex problems then choose Engineering! From working in aerospace to the defence industries, the world of Engineering is vast. As an Engineer you are involved in all stages of product development from research, right through to production. Many of our students progress onto university where they study a wide variety of degree programmes such as Motor Sports Engineering, Aeronautical and Electronic Engineering. Alternatively some of our students' progress directly into employment with some of the most established companies in the world.
Engineering courses take place at the Technology Centre.
The course consists of mandatory and optional units.
The mandatory units include:
- Working Practices in Engineering
- Using and Interpreting Engineering Information
- Applied Electrical and Mechanical Science for Technicians
- Mathematics for Engineering Technicians
Optional units consist of:
- Engineering Maintenance Procedures & Planning
- Engineering Assembly Techniques
- Mechanical Maintenance Fundamentals
- Electrical Maintenance Fundamentals
- Electronic Maintenance Fundamentals
- Engineering Marking Out
- Fluid Power Maintenance Fundamentals

This course is designed to meet the requirements of students wishing to gain employment within the maintenance engineering industry. The course is also suitable for anyone who wishes to progress to further or higher education in their chosen field, or who wishes to gain a basic understanding of process maintenance theory and practice. 18 units and an I.V.A are required for the Diploma - 9 per year.
6 Core Units comprise: Business Systems for Technicians; Communications for Technicians; Science for Technician; Mathematics for Technicians; Operations & Maintenance Procedures & Techniques; Project.
12 Specialist Units from the following: Monitoring & Fault Diagnosis; Health, Safety & Welfare; Mechanical Technology; Mechanical Principles; Electrical Technology; Engineering Materials; Electro, Pneumatics & Hydraulic Systems; Plant Services & Operation; Engineering, Drawing & CAD; Fluid Mechanics; Processing & Engineering Workshop Practice; Materials Handling; Plus other optional units

The course has been designed to be flexible. At the start of your course you will be interviewed by your personal tutor and receive a personal learning plan. You will be expected to complete classwork and coursework to meet deadlines.
