Entry Level Qualifications & ESOL

You may not have achieved many GCSEs at school but fear not! Entry Level Qualifications are your stepping stone to higher level courses. They are designed to be flexible in order to meet your individual needs and help you develop confidence, improve your study skills and gain qualifications to get you back on track. You will develop your Maths, English, ICT and communication skills, and you will also study a vocational area of your choice.

Entry Level Qualifications & ESOL courses take place at the Altrincham site or the Technology Centre.

Entry Level To Gas, Plumbing & Electrical

The course has been designed to be flexible. At the start of your course you will be interviewed by your personal tutor and receive a personal learning plan. You will be expected to complete class work and course work to meet deadlines.

You will study:

- Health & Safety

- Use of materials

- Basic Pipe Fitting Skills

- Gas Safety

- Literacy/Communications

- Numeracy

- ICT

- Citizenship & Personal Development Skill

Entry To Art & Media

The course has been designed to be flexible. At the start of your course you will be interviewed by your Personal Tutor and receive a personal learning plan. You will work in small groups and be expected to complete classwork and coursework to meet deadlines. You will have the opportunity to take part in external visits and undergo work experience/residentials. You will study: Art & Media, Literacy/Communications, Numeracy, ICT, Citizenship and Personal Development Skills.

To prepare you for a higher level course or employment, you will be required to achieve a qualification in Number, Communication and ICT. These qualifications wil be studied at the appropriate level for your personal development/progression needs

Entry To Beauty Therapy

The course has been designed to be flexible. At the start of your course you will be interviewed by your Personal Tutor and receive a personal learning plan. You will work in small groups and be expected to complete classwork and coursework to meet deadlines.

You will have the opportunity to take part in external visits and undergo work experience/residentials.

You will study: Literacy/Communications, Numeracy, ICT, Citzenship and Beauty (Introduction to Beauty Therapy, Manicure and assisting with facials).

Functional skills Requirements: To prepare you for a higher level course, employment or university you will be required to achieve a functional skills qualification in Application of Number, Communication and ICT. These qualifications will be studied at the appropriate level for your personal development/progression needs

Entry To Business, Administration And Retail

This course is for students who would like to study retail with the aim of progressing onto a Level 1 course, work based learning or employment. The programme aims to build self confidence and extend student' basic and social skills.

The course has been designed to be flexible. At the start of your course you will be interviewed by your Personal Tutor and recieve a personal learning plan. You will work in small groups and be expected to complete class work, and coursework to meet deadlines.

You will have the opportunity to take part in external visits undergo work experience and residentials.

You will study business, administration and retail, literacy/communications, numeracy, ICT, citizenship and personal development skills.

Entry To Hairdressing

The course has been designed to be flexible. At the start of your course you will be interviewed by your Personal Tutor and receive a personal learning plan. You will work in small groups and be expected to complete classwork and coursework to meet deadlines.

You will have the opportunity to take part in external visits and undergo work experience/residentials.

You will study: Literacy/Communications, Numeracy, ICT, Citizenship and Hairdressing. You will work towards achieving two hairdressing units.

1) Introduction to hair care.

2) Assisting the stylist.

Entry To Hospitality & Catering

The course has been designed to be flexible. At the start of your course you will be interviewed by your Personal Tutor and receive a personal learning plan. You will work in small groups and be expected to complete classwork and coursework to meet deadlines.

You will have the opportunity to take part in external visits and undergo work experience/residentials.

You will study: Literacy/Communications; Numeracy; ICT; Citizenship; 1 vocational option - Hospitality & Catering. This involves stuying food hygiene, food service in Aspire Restaurant and food preparation and cooking in one of our specialist training kitchens for which you will be provided with a uniform.

Entry To Motor Vehicle

This is a course designed to give you an introduction to the skills and knowledge used in the maintenance and repair of motor vehicles and to provide a progress route to level 1 programmes.

The course is a mixture of practical activities and theoretical knowledge which is assessed. At least 1 day of each week is spent in the Motor Vehicle workshops.

Areas of study include:

- Contributing to good housekeeping

- Health & Safety

- Maintaining working relationships

- Identifying faulty components

- Removing and replacing components

- Engines

- Fuel Petrol & Diesel

- Cooling System

- Ignition System

- Transmission

- Braking System

- Suspension & Steering System

- Wheel & Tyres.

Functional Maths, English and ICT are a core part of the programme
