Gas, Plumbing & Electrical
Are you motivated, skilled and like the prospect of working in a hands-on industry? If the answer to this is 'yes', then choose a career in Gas, Plumbing or Electrical Installation. Our practical courses are designed to build trade skills to meet industry demands, which you will gain in our specialist facilities.
The College boasts excellent links with major employers such as British Gas, Balfour Beatty and Calor to name a few. As a result of these excellent links and industry standard training the majority of our students progress directly into employment within industrial, commercial or domestic premises companies, or even become self employed. Alternatively some of our past students' have gone onto university where they studied a range of degrees such as Building Services Engineering and Electronic Engineering.
Gas, Plumbing & Electrical courses take place at the Technology Centre.
The City & Guilds Level 2 course aims to give learners the basic underpinning knowledge and practical skills required for progression or to the City & Guilds Level 3 qualification.
The Level 2 and Level 3 Qualifications are an essential and integral part of the NVQ 3 Modern Apprenticeship Scheme required within the Electrical Industry.
The Level Two course is built on the successful completion of 6 units;
- 201 - Working Effectively & Safely in the Electrotechnical Environment
- 202 - Principles of Electrotechnology
- 203 - Application of Health & Safety and Electrical Principles
- 204 - Application of Health & Safety and Electrical Principles (Assignment)
- 205 - Installation Building & Structures
- 206 - Installation Building & Structures (Assignment

Designed for young people wishing to enter the plumbing industry.
The course consists of a Plumbing Technical Certificate at Level 2. The course is both internally and externally assessed and is made up of a series of practical and written tasks.This will make up the underpinning knowledge for the trainee plumber. Obtaining this qualification allows anyone entering the plumbing profession who is not currently employed in a plumbing capacity to seek employment within the sector.
Progression is onto Level 3 and the NVQ Level 2 and 3 qualification, the latter consisting of evidence from work activities away from the College premises. This ensures that the qualification reflects true evidence of a trainees work experience.
Learning is through classroom based and practical workshop activities. A variety of teaching and learning strategies are employed.
