Gas & Plumbing
If you‘re willing to work hard, then the Gas & Plumbing industries can deliver real rewards. If you choose to enter the Gas industry, once you are qualified you might choose to specialise in heating, fault finding, gas and new build, fire fitting or industrial work. Or as a qualified Plumber you might choose to work within commercial, industrial or domestic premises for a firm or even become self-employed. Whichever you choose, the work is varied and you will have plenty of opportunities to progress. Experienced self-employed workers in this industry have the capability to earn a good wage but may have to be flexible in their working hours. In our industry standard workshops, you‘ll develop your practical skills as well as industry knowledge. We have excellent links with employers, fantastic training facilities and experienced tutors to ensure you get the best possible start to your future career.
Courses take place at our Technology Centre.
The course provides a working insight into the roles of the gas and plumbing engineer through hands on experience.
The course content includes the various aspects of the industries.
- Health and safety procedures
- Use of tools and equipment
- Basic first aid
- Hot and cold water systems
- Shower, bath and WC installation
- Sanitation and drainage
- Practical skills in pipe bending and jointing materials
- Identification of fittings

This is a work experience based qualification, equipping learners with the skills required to progress within the Utilities industry. Learners gain work experience in the Gas Utility industry attending College for skills sessions, practice and underpinning knowledge.
The programme covers two General Engineering units along with three specific Gas Utilities units.
The programme includes practical skills and knowledge to meet the requirements of City and Guilds Engineering Certificate 2800 at Level 2 in Gas Operations.
Units include:
- Working in Engineering
- Engineering Technology
- Understanding Gas Business Operations
- Understanding Gas Technology Operations
- Customer Service Principles.
The programme and course focuses on gas operations relating to pipelines, mains, services and associated equipment from the beach to the meter.
Students will be provided with the necessary work clothes and personal protection equipment (PPE) along with the equipment required to complete the course.
