The Training Programme

This is a 14 month programme which includes:

  • Instructing Exercise cise and Fitness (Group Exercise with Music) NVQ Level 3 (workplace)
  • Certifi cate in Understanding the Fitness,
  • Leisure and Recreation Industry Level 2 (workplace)
  • Certifi cate in Fitness Instructing Level 2 (ETM) (9 day course)
  • Award in Circuit Training (3 day course and 1 day assessment out of workplace)

First Aid At Work

This course is designed to give participants the highest level of First Aid required at work. It will enable the participant to deal with an emergency situation with confidence in a prompt, safe and effective way.
By the end of the course the delegates will be able to:

  • Understand the principles of first aid responsibilities, legalities and reporting.
  • Assess and administer first aid to an injured person including Unconscious Casualties, Resuscitation, Heart Attacks, Choking, Poisoning, Fractures, Burns, Head Injuries, Eye Injuries, Sprains, Strains, Shock, Bandaging and Control of Bleeding.  
  • Fulfil the criteria outlined for a First Aid at Work person within the first aid regulations.

This course is designed for people who are deemed suitable and are intended to fulfil the role of a First Aid at Work person.

Initial training is completed within 4 days (24 contact hours).
This qualification is valid for 3 years which can be renewed by attending a suitable 2-Day re-qualification course.

A maximum of 12 students can be accommodated on this course and must be aged 16 years or above.

We are able to deliver this course on your site, subject to a pre-course assessment of your premises or delivery can be provided at a Trafford College campus.


First Aid At Work

This course is designed for people who have already completed their 4 Day First Aid at Work Course and need to complete a refresher course to keep their qualification up to date.

Initial training is completed within 2 Days (12 contact hours).
This qualification is valid for 3 years which can be renewed by attending a suitable 2-Day re-qualification course.

A maximum of 12 students can be accommodated on this course and must be aged 16 years or above.

We are able to deliver this course on your site, subject to a pre-course assessment of your premises, or delivery can be provided at a Trafford College campus.


First Aid At Work - Appointed Person Course

This course covers the essential knowledge that is needed for the role of First Aid at Work appointed person.

This course is designed to assist an employer in the provision of a suitably qualified first aid person when the risk has been perceived as being in the category where an appointed person is required.
By the end of the course the delegate will be able to:

  • Render emergency first aid to an injured person until medical assistance is available including Heart Attacks, Fractures, Choking, Burns, Shock, Control of Bleeding, Resuscitation, Unconscious casualty.
  • Recognise and appropriately treat most emergency situations

Fulfil the criteria outlined for an appointed person within the First Aid Regulations.

Initial training is completed within 1 Day (6hrs).
Whilst there is no compulsory requirement for retraining, it is normally considered beneficial for appointed persons to have their skills reassessed every 3 years.

A maximum of 12 students can be accommodated on this course and must be aged 16 years or above.

We are able to deliver this course on your site, subject to a pre-course assessment of your premises, or delivery can be provided at Trafford College campus.


Instructing Exercise And Fitness

Core units

  • Evaluate coaching sessions and develop personal coaching practice
  • Supporting participants in developing and maintaining fitness
  • Deal with accidents and emergencies
  • Evaluate and develop your own practice in Instructing Exercise & Fitness

AND EITHER:

Gym Instructor

  • Plan and prepare a gym based exercise session
  • Instruct a gym based exercise session

OR

Group Exercise with Music

  • Plan and prepare a group exercise with music session
  • Instruct a group exercise with music session

Assessment is continuous in the workplace with candidates delivering practical sessions and producing written or product evidence to satisfy the performance criteria of the NVQ. Candidates will produce a portfolio which will be internally and externally verified.

What We Can Expect From You

  • Candidates must hold a position within a fitness facility (paid or voluntary) for a minimum of sixteen hours per week

Instructing Physical Activity & Exercise

This is a fourteen month programme which includes:

  • Advanced Gym Certificate
  • Level 3 (9 days + 1 day assessment out of workplace)
  • Physical Activity and Exercise NVQ Level 3 (in the workplace)
  • Nutrition and Weight Management Level 3 (3 days + 1 day assessment out of workplace)
  • Understanding the Fitness Industry Level 3 (in the workplace)
  • Optional First Aid at Work

Assessment is continuous in the workplace with candidates delivering practical sessions and producing written or product evidence to satisfy the performance criteria of the NVQ.  Candidates will produce a portfolio which will be internally and externally verified.

Leisure Management

This is a nine month programme. Candidates must complete four core units and a minimum of five optional units.

Core units

  • Manage your own resources and professional development
  • Provide leadership in your area of responsibility
  • Ensure the health, safety, welfare and security of customers and staff
  • Work with others to improve customer service

Assessment is through observation and discussion mainly in the workplace. Learners will produce a portfolio of evidence, which will be verified and externally moderated.

Leisure Management

This is a 14 month programme which includes:

  • Leisure Management NVQ Q Level 3 (in the workplace)
  • Certifi cate in Understanding the Fitness Industry Level 3 (in the workplace)
  • ISRM Supervisory Management Certifi cate (in the workplace)
  • First Aid at Work (4 days)

Operational Services

Candidates must complete three core units and four optional units.

  • Give customers a positive impression of yourself and your organisation
  • Contribute to the work of your team

Optional Units

These are in the areas of:

  • Equipment
  • Facilities
  • Customer care
  • Team leading

Physical Activity And Exercise

The qualification is aimed at people who want to develop their health and fitness teaching skills to an advanced personal trainer level.

Core units

  • Collect and analyse information to plan a progressive physical activity programme
  • Plan, review and adapt a progressive physical activity programme
  • Plan and instruct specific physical activities
  • Provide motivation and support to clients during a progressive physical activity programme
  • Apply the principles of nutrition and weight management to a progressive physical activity programme
  • Manage, evaluate and improve own performance in providing physical activity

Optional units are available after completion of the mandatory units.

Assessment is continuous in the workplace with candidates delivering practical sessions and producing written or product evidence to satisfy the performance criteria of the NVQ. Candidates will produce a portfolio which will be internally and externally verified.

This is a nine month programme. Candidates must complete five core units and four optional units.

  • Provide leadership in your area of responsibility
  • Promote equality and diversity in sport and physical activity
  • Ensure the health, safety, welfare and security of customers and staff

Assessment is through observation and discussion mainly in the workplace. Learners will produce a portfolio of evidence, which will be verified and externally moderated.
