Arts Student Proves He’s an App Above the Rest!
Trafford College teenager, David Jones from Sale, is celebrating this week after winning a competition launched by city centre digital media agency, Tecmark.
Seventeen-year-old, David, impressed bosses from the leading Manchester agency with his creation and development of an Apple iPhone application concept.
The competition was launched by the college three months ago in collaboration with Tecmark and tasked local students to create and develop an app for music website, www.getyourearsout.com.
Twenty two students from the Creative Technology course took part with six finalists being invited to Tecmark’s offices this week to pitch their ideas to directors at the company.
A delighted Dave said; “The presentation was nerve racking – I felt like I was entering the dragon’s den! It was a fantastic experience for me and I now have a better understanding of what it takes to cut it in the commercial world.”
Kevin Jones director from the agency said: “We were impressed with all the presentations but David’s concept really stood out. It was great and most importantly we can see a place for it in the market.
David’s App, entitled ‘Gig Ratings’ would allow people to get an message to their iPhone straight after a gig, with options for rating then uploading to ‘Get Your Ears Out’. It would also provide access to up to date ratings from all over the UK- so there is no need to wait until you get home to cast your opinion!
David scooped an iPod Touch and has also been offered an exciting work placement with Tecmark.
Stuart Drummond, Lecturer at the college, based on Manchester Road West, Timperley, added: “The collaboration has been a real success. We are very grateful to Tecmark for getting involved with us on this project.
He concluded: “There is no better experience for the students. We hope to partner with the company in the future.”
