Hairdressing Students go Head to Head
Trafford College’s talented Hairdressing students put their creative talents to the test this week as they competed in the College’s annual hair competition.
Held in Enhance Salon and Spa in Altrincham, the intense competition is aimed at preparing students for the national contest coming up in March. Over sixty students of all levels competed in various categories from ‘High Fashion’ to ‘Evening Glamour’ in a bid to be crowned the best stylist and win a place at the Blackpool Hair Competition. It’s here that students will be up against other training stylists from all over the UK.
Winner of the Level 3 High Fashion Cut and Colour competition, Risonette Day, is in her third and last year of her Hairdressing course. Originally from Brazil, the 34 year old from Bowden had originally returned to College to study English, and with her new found confidence soon decided to turn her passion for styling hair into a career aspiration. Presented with her certificate and top-of-the-range hairdressing scissors worth over £100, she commented:
“I love being at the College and I really enjoyed the competition today. I didn’t find it stressful at all, but I’m surprised to have won given the high level of candidates taking part. I’m really looking forward to setting up a client base once I finish my course here and maybe opening my own salon one day.”
Cheryl Navin, Team Leader for Hairdressing, commented on the event, “The College competitions are a great opportunity for our students to demonstrate their creative skills. A lot of hard work and practise goes into preparing for the event and it is a great opportunity for students to build their confidence for external competitions.”
