Invest in your Future
Some of Greater Manchester’s largest employers in areas of economic growth are working alongside Trafford College to help unemployed adults (aged 17+) in Manchester get back into the workplace.
Total Fitness, Trafford Metropolitan Borough Council and Trafford Leisure are just a few of the employers who are supporting a new ‘Skills for Jobs’ initiative to help the scores of jobless people in the area get back into work, in particular those who have been unemployed for long periods, those facing redundancies, and young people not in education or employment.
The Skills for Jobs programme is designed to improve the prospects of the unemployed, helping them move back into work more quickly, and retrain those wishing to take a change of direction in their career. Those who sign up are offered a choice of refresher courses such as confidence building, CV writing and interview techniques, all as part of their employer training package which is focused on employability.
On Friday 5 March, Trafford College will be opening its doors and offering advice on a wide range of career programmes linked to current job vacancies. The programmes available will offer participants free training opportunities in order to re-skill and refresh their skills, and guide them into sustainable employment. Training will be offered in a wide range of areas including retail, hospitality, sport, pharmacy, security and care.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to chat to high profile employers who will be providing guidance on how best to train for a career within their industry while also keeping an eye out for potential employees.
Collette Kelly, Head of Business Training at Trafford College comments, “Despite business cut-backs in the face of the credit crunch, there are still many job opportunities available in Greater Manchester and the College is helping local people access these opportunities.
“Through our Open Day, the College is offering individuals the chance to make a fresh start. The downturn has resulted in uncertain times for a lot of people and this is why it pays to talk to the professionals when making important decisions about your future. Even if you've not had any firm ideas yet, our team of professionals can help you start planning your future and look at your situation in a different way.”
