Trafford College

Help for the people of Haiti is coming from across all Trafford College sites. 

From craft sales to themed weeks, Trafford College students are coming up with new and exciting ideas to continue raising money for the homeless people of Haiti.

Their most recent fundraiser entitled ‘Love Haiti’ saw staff and students dressed in pink or red for a fee of one pound. Organised by three of the College’s International Baccalaureate students, (Malsha Fernando,17, Emine Anandam,16 and Greeshma Pramode,16) pink buckets were sent around all College sites collecting the £1 donations from anyone dressed in pink or red.

At the Talbot Road campus, the College’s Supported Learning students joined in with the fundraiser having spent weeks creating crafts for their themed ‘Hearts for Haiti’ stall, which they set up in the main reception. Items on sale included handmade, love themed cakes, cards, crafts, and flowers.

IB student, Emine Anandam, commented:

“After hearing about the devastation in Haiti and seeing the vivid images in all our newspapers, we decided to organise ongoing themed weeks at the College, which have included formal week, stripy week and various colour weeks!

“Malsha, Greeshma and I have been taking part in charity work since we were all at St Paul’s High School together, and we used to organise fundraisers there to help St Anne’s Hospice. We don’t want the people of Haiti to be forgotten as the coverage lessens in the press, so we’re going to continue with our fundraisers for as long as we can. We’re so excited about the amazing response we’ve received from staff and students across all sites.”

IB Tutor, Claire Rawlinson added:

“I’m really proud of our students’ continuing efforts to raise money for Haiti. The girls have spent all their spare time in between lessons collecting money, and they are so enthusiastic about coming up with fresh ideas to keep staff and students aware of the ongoing need for help.”

At last count, the students’ Hearts for Haiti pink and red day had raised almost £400. These funds will be donated to the DEC Haiti Appeal.
