The artistic talents of a group of Level 3 Foundation Diploma Art and Design students at Trafford College are currently on display on an ‘extreme’ scale at Event City.
Urban themed artwork – which includes graffiti and street art on oil drums, large corrugated sheets of steel, stacks of car tyres and even a 4×4 – was created by the talented young people and forms the backdrop and scenery for the new ‘Circus Extreme’ show which is currently running in Manchester.
The college’s art and design department was approached by the Moscow State Circus, the team behind Circus Extreme, earlier this year to see if any students would like to take part in project for the new show.
Mark Green, head of curriculum for art and design, said: “It was an opportunity not be missed!”
Following an intense three days of painting, the sets were completed and the student’s artwork unveiled in the UK’s largest circus big top when the show launched on 9 February.
Student Mandy Parkinson said: “It was such a great experience. It means a lot as an artist to have this kind of exposure for your work. I loved the creative freedom it gave me and helped me to realise the kind of work I want to do as a career. Everyone at the circus was really kind and I really enjoyed working in such an exciting environment.”
The show runs at Event City until 25 February.
