Local businesses and apprentices from Trafford and Greater Manchester gathered at Hotel Football on Thursday 22 March to celebrate Trafford College’s Apprenticeship Awards 2018.
Government figures released this week show Trafford College to be the number one provider across Greater Manchester for timely apprenticeship achievement, and the awards night – sponsored by Intu Trafford Centre – recognises some of the borough’s most talented apprentices and exceptional organisations that go the extra mile to give their workforce the edge though training and skills development.
The celebration saw more than 30 awards given to apprentices and organisations who have shown great commitment and dedication to training and development over the past year.
The awards were presented by Principal Lesley Davies OBE and guest speaker Sean Anstee, leader of Trafford Council and a former apprentice himself. A broad cross-section of industries was represented including business, sport, building services, hospitality and engineering to name but a few.
One of the apprentices celebrating her award for ‘Overall Apprentice of the Year’ was Emma Coates. The 33-year-old from Bollington, a heating and ventilation apprentice with Laing O’Rouke, was recognised for her self-motivation, determination and will to succeed.
Emma, whose previous careers have included the Army and working in retail, chose an apprenticeship as she was looking for a new career path.
Emma said: “When the overall winner’s name was being read out, it didn’t register that it was me at first. It was a complete surprise and quite overwhelming, but a very proud moment and one I won’t forget.”
As well as scooping her award, Emma also walked away from the ceremony with £100 worth of vouchers from the award sponsors, Intu Trafford Centre.
Principal Lesley Davies said: “Our presentation evening celebrated the fantastic achievements and dedication of our apprentices and the commitment of the businesses and organisations we work alongside to deliver our apprenticeship programme.”
She added: “I am very proud of our apprenticeship team and the confirmation we have been named as the number one provider in Greater Manchester for timely apprenticeship achievement is testament to the hard work, commitment and dedication of our tutors, assessors and our Trafford First recruitment service.”
