Dominic Owens’ career in the aviation industry has really taken off after completing his BTEC Level 3 in Aviation Operations at Trafford College.
The 19-year-old secured a job in airside operations with the airline Jet2 at Manchester Airport, gained a place at university to study air transport and logistics and in his own time, achieved his NPPL(M) pilot’s licence.
Dominic said: “My course helped open my eyes to the vast world of the aviation industry, as well as giving me direct links to people and companies within it.
“Trafford College helped me to acquire the skills and knowledge to enter straight into a job at Jet2 and the hand-on experience that I gained during the course has allowed me to progress in my job a lot quicker.”
Dominic’s ambition is to become a first officer for an airline and he is currently working towards his EASA private pilot’s licence to be able to continue his training to airline pilot level.
“The best thing about the course would be the interest the tutors have in your career goals and the way they continually support you to give you the best chance of succeeding,” recalls Dominic.
“Throughout my time at college I was treated in a mature and professional way, and I believe that this really assisted me in moving into the world of work and university.”
He added: “Aviation is a career that’s very rewarding, but also one of great responsibility. As long as you stay focussed, it’s a course that you can take real pride in doing and the educational trips abroad are also a bonus to look forward to!”
