Alongside hosting competitions for WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017 at its Altrincham campus, Trafford College and its students also hosted and competed in the GMCG inter colleges skills competitions, which gives some of the region’s most talented students the opportunity to compete against each other and showcase their skills.

Member colleges welcomed GMCG partners to their campuses between 24 – 31 March with each college hosting and coordinating a different skills competition throughout the week. Competitions also took place at this year’s ‘Choices Skills Show’ at Event City, which is where Trafford College took the lead for the group Hair and Beauty competitions in front of crowds of over 10,000 enthusiastic visitors from across the region. Also showcasing their skills at the event were Bolton College who hosted Hospitality, Bury College who hosted Art & Design, and Wigan and Leigh College who hosted Digital & Media.

Students and tutors worked tirelessly in preparation for the competitions and were eager to demonstrate their unquestionable talent, producing some outstanding ideas and work along the way.

Taking inspiration from their peers at the WorldSkills contest, Trafford College students were flying high with a number of victories across many of the competitions. Highlights included 1st place medals in Engineering (Turning), Intermediate Enterprise, Level 2 Nails, Level 2 Barbering, and a further four top-three medals in Sport, Hairdressing, and Hair & Media make-up.

Joan Scott, Director of Learning at Trafford College commented, “These talented students work incredibly hard throughout the year and this was their opportunity to showcase their skills, and produce some outstanding creations. Congratulations to all of the students and their colleges on what was a fantastic event!”
