Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville took to the stage at Trafford College to talk to staff and students about the exciting plans he has for University Academy ’92 (UA92).
Before hosting a question and answer session in the packed auditorium, he spoke about his ambitions for the new university, and to provide not just qualifications, but skills for life.
Gary said: “We have teamed up with Trafford College because our beliefs and ethos are the same. Their approach is innovative, exciting and they clearly want the best for their students, as do we.”
The aim of the partnership between Trafford College and UA92 is to provide a clear pathway to the new University for young people aged 16-18. UA92 has joined forces with prestigious institutions across both education and industry including the likes of Lancaster University and Microsoft, and will deliver a specialist focus in the areas of sport, business and media.
With a strong focus on employability and careers, the new partnership will provide not just a degree but a preparation for life, and a personal journey that will help individuals develop the emotional, physical and social qualities required to shine.
The new University will also support the growth of a ‘local’ graduate economy, creating potentially over 460 new permanent employment opportunities.
Project founder Gary Neville added: “I have always believed that success is down to more than just having talent and good luck. There should be no limits to what you can achieve with the right preparation. Our aim is that UA92 graduates would leave with an academic qualification, of course, but also with a range of other skills such as how to deal with pressure, understand finance, leadership and presentation skills, and also how to maintain a healthy body and mind. In other words, the complete package you need to succeed in the workplace.”
The new University is at the heart of Trafford Council’s masterplan for Stretford and Old Trafford, and will make a strong contribution towards the regeneration of the Old Trafford and Stretford areas.
