Joe Montgomery, an Electrical Apprentice from Trafford College, has been named runner-up at the Sparks UK Electrical Apprentice of the Year 2017 contest.
Launched in 2010, the competition gives participants the chance to be recognised for their hard work and skills, and is a great opportunity for lecturers, employers, industry leaders and manufacturers to get involved and support the next generation of electricians.
Joe (21) from Cheshire, competed over two days in the national final of the competition at the £3m innovation centre in Bracknell, and achieved runner up against some of the most skilled and competitive apprentices from across the UK.
In addition to award prizes for Joe from the main sponsors, the College also received a donation of £500 of Schneider electrical products.
Joe commented, “I feel very fortunate to have won the North West regional competition and to then come second in the national competition. I found the whole experience very challenging and extremely rewarding, and I learned an awful lot about producing quality electrical installations within demanding time constraints. Being successful in this competition has also given me recognition within my company, NG Bailey, which I hope will benefit my career progression.”
Terry Shannon, Employer Responsive Coordinator added, “Joe applied himself fantastically throughout both the heats and the final, and he was up against the best eight apprentices in the UK, all working to a very high standard.
“Coming runner up in this competitive field is a great achievement for Joe and is testament to the quality training at Trafford College.”
