Trafford College sport student Simeon Burrows has been called up to the under 18 Bermuda squad.
The 17-year-old, who plays for the Salford City FC Academy team and is studying Level 2 sport as part of the UA92 programme at the College, will fly out to Bermuda at the weekend for The Football Festival Committee’s first friendly international tournament in the capital, Hamilton.
The in-form midfielder has had previous call-ups to the under 15 and under 17 national squads, but this is the first time he’ll be playing for the national side on home soil.
The teenager, who signed a two-year-scholarship with Academy 92 last July, was thrilled to receive the national call-up. He said: “It’s a great achievement for me to represent the country where I was born, and this time is extra special with the competition being held in Bermuda. It will be nice to have family there cheering me on.”
Damian Harris, Head of Curriculum for Sport Studies, said: “It is fantastic to see Simeon making his mark on the international stage. Our partnership with Academy 92 means that Simeon, along with the rest of the team, are able to pursue their footballing aspirations whilst receiving a great education, as well as developing the personal skills to prepare them for a range of future careers.”
