Trafford College Workforce Development Coordinator, Beccy Poole, will represent Team GB after successfully qualifying for the Sprint Duathlon Championships in Canada later this year. Beccy found out she had been successful in securing a place in the competition after completing a grueling qualifying event at Acton Park earlier this year. She came 4th out of over 100 competitors, securing her place with Team GB at the Penticton Canada Championships in the 35-39 age group and can now look forward to taking part in the duathlon, which will include a 5k run, 20k bike ride and 5k run.
What’s even more remarkable about the mum of one’s achievement is that Beccy took three years out of her training programme after having her daughter, now 4, and only returned to the training circuit last year.
Incredibly, as well as combining her dedication to teaching with motherhood, Beccy somehow finds the time to train eight sessions a week in preparation for the event later this year.
Beccy commented, “I’m so excited and proud to be representing our country in duathlon. I hope that any success I have inspires others to work hard on their ambitions and dreams and I have proved that with hard work and determination this can become a reality.”
As Beccy is self funding the trip, she has set up a just giving page and would greatly appreciate any donations to help fund her entry fees, uniform and transportation of equipment.
