Trafford College scoops top honour at BESA Awards

Trafford College has received the top honour at this year’s Building Engineering Services Association (BESA) Awards in recognition of its Heating and Ventilation provision.

Trafford College representatives were thrilled to be announced as winners of the prestigious Chairman’s achievement award, which is personally selected by Peter Williams, Chairman of the BESA North West Region. The honour is awarded to an area that is judged deserving of special recognition for its commitment to enhancing and developing training, as well as outstanding achievements over the past year within the Building Services industry.

The College was recognised for its outstanding facilities and the quality of delivery on its Heating and Ventilation programme. The College was also praised for its willingness to meet the high standards required within the industry, as well as its commitment to raising the standard of education in STEM-related trades.

Trafford College has seen its Heating & Ventilation programme go from strength to strength since the launch of the Centre of Excellence for Heating & Ventilation Apprenticeships at the Centre for Science and Technology. The new centre, which is sponsored by multinational construction company Laing O’ Rourke and one of the UK’s leading building services providers, Crown House Technologies, was officially launched in 2015. The global industry leaders have been working in partnership with Trafford College to develop a Centre of Excellence for mechanical, electrical and plumbing apprentices, helping ensure that the College fulfils its aim of addressing the skills shortages that have plagued the industry in recent years.

Receiving the award on behalf of the College was Gas and Plumbing Tutor, Bob Barlow.

Bob commented, “Trafford College are delighted to have received the BESA Chairman’s award. The set-up of the Heating and Ventilation department has allowed us to build fantastic relationships with new exciting companies such as Laing O’Rourke and Crown House Technologies, and draw on their expertise to create realistic assessment environments which benefit the learners greatly.”
