Trafford College is encouraging local people looking for new opportunities to contact the College and find out more about its new ‘Trafford First’ Recruitment Hub.
The new initiative is bringing local businesses and employers together, as well as students and young people from around Greater Manchester, and will specialise in helping match suitable candidates to quality placements such as apprenticeships, traineeships, work experience opportunities, volunteering and part time positions. Essential skills workshops such as CV writing and interview techniques will also be on offer, aimed at helping young people in Trafford back into the workplace whilst helping get the local economy back on track.
Two new hubs will shortly be opening at the College’s Talbot Road and Altrincham sites. The College is also looking forward to the official launch of its new Skills Shop based at INTU Trafford Centre, which has been developed in response to a rising need to provide employers, and those looking for a career in industries such as retail, hospitality and customer services with high quality training provision and a support network. The Skills Shop offers a range of services including recruitment solutions, training needs analysis and a comprehensive suite of training courses to meet the needs of businesses and employees alike.
One such employee reaping the benefits of the College’s guidance throughout her apprenticeship programme is Erin Harcourt
Erin, 18, from Sale, is currently enrolled on an Apprenticeship in Business and Administration whilst working with TIP Trailers in Sale.
Erin started working with the company upon leaving school as she didn’t believe the academic route through university was suited to her, but nonetheless wanted to gain qualifications and further her career. She therefore discussed the option of embarking on an apprenticeship programme with her employer.
Erin very quickly became a very competent member of her unit, despite the rest of the team being much older and more experienced than her. She has been such a success with TIP that the company has given her an excellence award, with nominations open to all staff across the organisation. More notably, she has been promoted and offered a full time contract.
Erin said of her programme, ‘My apprenticeship has helped me greatly with my confidence and has inspired me to get the qualifications I need while still working. It has also widened my knowledge in business and admin so I can progress onto another job in this sector. Ultimately it has helped me carve a career I know I would like for life. I now manage five fitters for our company, which is a big responsibility, and I feel proud to have been entrusted with a managerial role at such a young age.’
