The Trafford Pledge is an initiative that was set up in July 2014 between Trafford Council, Trafford College, the DWP and other key partners with the strategic aim of helping young (18-24) unemployed people in Trafford secure full-time employment, an apprenticeship, work experience or mentoring.
By matching job-seekers with local businesses, the Trafford Pledge benefits both the local community and the wider economy.
So far, the Trafford Pledge has signed up a number of high profile organisations such as Hotel Football, McDonalds, L’Oreal, Unilever, Premier Inn and Whistl (TNT) to name just a few and has now been widened to include any unemployed Trafford resident.
At a recent employer engagement event, existing Trafford Pledge businesses spoke about their experiences of the pledge and the many business benefits available. These included:
An example of how the Trafford Pledge has helped businesses with their recruiting is Hotel Football, the Football themed hotel due to open shortly opposite Old Trafford and the brainchild of Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt, Gary Neville and Phil Neville, who were all part of the famous ‘class of 1992’ that progressed through the Reds youth system.
Working closely with Hotel Football Talent Manager Julita Mankowska, the Trafford College pre-employment team & Trafford Pledge partners helped source, pre-select and train, nearly 50 unemployed Trafford residents, getting them interview-ready in just one week.
After a gruelling day of interviews, Hotel Football reported that she had seen a significant difference between those interviewees who had been through the pre-employment training and those who had not, stating that all the pre-trained interviewees were more knowledgeable, more communicative and enthused about the roles on offer saving her valuable time during the interview process.
The pre-employment team will continue to work with Hotel Football and other local employers (large and small) to help secure jobs for Trafford residents over the coming months and if you or any of your team know of any businesses who might be interested in signing up, please email Craig Wilkinson at the STEM centre for more information.
