Meet Scott

Scott

Course: Professional Restaurant Skills Level 3

School: Lostock High School

"I looked at three other Colleges around Manchester but Trafford College seemed the best. The facilities are excellent with four kitchens all with top of the range equipment. College is completely different from school, it’s more chilled out here and you speak to the tutors on first names terms. I’m hoping to go to Huddersfield University to study Hotel and Restaurant Management, and I feel that Trafford College has really prepared me for that!"

Meet Naila

Naila

Course: A Levels

School: Altrincham Grammar School for Girls

“I’m studying A Levels because I want to go on to University and the A Level subjects Trafford College had to offer were the ones I wanted to study. I wanted the independence of going to College as opposed to staying on at sixth form, because you are much more independent. You get to meet new people and it’s a better preparation for University. The College has really good facilities; this year they have just opened up a new library and you each get a personal tutor as well, which is really helpful as they help guide you through the process for University and what are the best choices for you.”

Meet James

James Dawson

Course: BTEC National Diploma in Applied Science

School: Altrincham College of Arts

“The course involves all Sciences, such as Physics, Biology and Chemistry. There are a lot of really good facilities in the labs including all types of machinery, and it’s good to know you will be working in the lab rather than just working in a classroom all the time. The tutors really help you through your work, and it has definitely helped me mature a lot. Being at Trafford College has helped me decide my future and has made me passionate about wanting to do Science as University.”

Meet Martyn

Martyn

Course: BTEC National Diploma in Building Services

School: Manchester Health Academy

“I chose Trafford College because it’s one of the only College's in Manchester that does the course I wanted to do. I’ve always wanted to go into the construction industry and hopefully after the two years I’ll be able to go on to University to study Construction Management. There is a really good atmosphere in the classroom and you get to go on a number of trips a year; I previously went on a plumbing trip to Manchester to see how water is purified. The College has helped me mature and become more focused on my future.”

Meet Ryan

Ryan

Course: Music Stage 1

School: Irlam and Cadishead Community High School

“I wanted to do something with music and I chose Trafford College because out of all the other Colleges this felt like the best option for me as it had a lot of facilities to offer. The course includes everything you need to study Music, from Business and Production to Performing. There are several rehearsal rooms and two fully equipped studios, which you are also free to use. The College puts on shows every other month, which you are able to take part in as well. Being at the College has helped me concentrate on a career in Music and I know this is what I want to do in the future.”

Meet Tom

Course: Electrical Installation Level 2

School:

“The course involves a lot of practical work, such as testing, inspecting and installing cables and light sockets. The facilities are really good and you receive a kit for the course, which has everything prepared for you and you are shown how to use all the equipment. I’ve enjoyed the course because I’ve learnt loads of new skills and have become more confident as a person.”

Meet Badar

Badar

Course: I.T Applications, Digital Devices and Engineering

School: Stretford High School

“I chose Trafford College because the facilities are really good for what I wanted to study. The key skills are mainly English and Maths but the rest of the work is learning everything you would need to know about computers, such as repairing and networking computers together. The tutors really help you out a lot and give you feedback on your work. I feel Trafford College was the best decision I have ever made in my life so far!”

Meet Jamie

Jamie

Course: Apprenticeship in Professional Cookery

School: Parrs Wood High School

“I felt an Apprenticeship would be the best option for me as I enjoyed the more hands-on experience of learning and not being stuck in a classroom all the time. You earn money whilst learning and meet loads of different people and take on new experiences every day. I am hoping to progress onto working in a restaurant within the next couple of years. I will be able to take everything I’ve learnt from the course, all the new skills and all the helpful advice I’ve been given from my employer and tutor, to help me become a great Chef!”

Meet James

James Elvin

Course: Wellington High School

School: BTEC National Diploma in Media, Film and Television

“The course offers a broad range of all aspects of the industry; one day you will be filming and some days you will be doing theory based work. I think the College has been very important with developing me as a person and a film maker, as I now know how to film and edit, and I've even learnt about the business side of things. After this course I plan to go on to University, so I feel this course has helped me in a lot of ways prepare for this.”

Meet Marc

Marc

Course: BTEC National Diploma in Business

School: Altrincham College of Arts

“I joined the army when I left school but found it wasn’t really for me and was unsure what to do next. I looked into the courses at Trafford College and I’m now studying towards a career in Business. The course covers all topics within Business; such as Accounting, Marketing, running a business to employing people. I feel that the course has prepared me for the future and given me the experience that I can use throughout my life and career. After the course, I would like to go on to University to study a course in Marketing.”

Meet Andy

Andy

Course: BTEC National Diploma in Aviation Level 3

School: Irlam and Cadishead High School

"I chose Trafford College as it was the only College that could help me achieve my dream of becoming an airline pilot. The course covers everything from economics, e-business to airfield and aircraft performance levels. Being a student at Trafford College is great; you wake up and actually want to get up and go to College to see your friends and get your work done, and at the end I’ll have a great qualification that will help me in the future."

Meet Hebe

Hebe

Course: Entry 3 Beauty

School: Flixton Girls High School

“I didn’t do well in my GCSE’s at school and knew that I would need to work hard to achieve a successful career. I heard about the Entry Level courses at Trafford College and felt that would give me the opportunities I needed to progress further. As well as studying for the course, I’m also studying Maths, English and ICT on top of this, which I have really learnt a lot from. Next year I’m progressing onto Level 2 Beauty and hope that when I have completed the course I will be able to get a full time job in a salon as a Beauty Therapist.”

Meet Ishmael

Ishmael

Course: Diploma in Paintspraying

School: Chorlton High School

“I’ve always been interested in cars and Trafford College has great facilities for the course I’m studying and the equipment is of a really high standard. The course includes work such as bodywork and paint spraying; you even get your own car to work on, which I don’t think you would get that sort of opportunity at other Colleges. I want to work full time at a garage when I finish College and will continue to work hard at what I love doing!”

Meet Daniel

Daniel

Course: BTEC National Diploma in Operations and Maintenance Engineering

School: Urmston Grammar School

“I wanted to study a course which involved lots of hands-on experience and the great thing about the course is that it’s mainly practical work; you see and feel the results in your hand instead of on paper and that gives you a great sense of accomplishment. Trafford College has helped me greatly in my future career and the College has even helped me attain an Apprenticeship at Kelloggs next year.”

Meet Siobhan

Siobhan

Course: BTEC National Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science

School: Whalley Range High School

“Within the course, we do a lot of practical work, where we work together with lots of different people and also study topics such as Psychology and Sports Business. The facilities are excellent; there is a Gym, Astroturf and a Sports Barn, which has lots of different equipment. I’ve changed a lot as person since being at College and now find it easier to socialise with new people, which is mainly due to the practical work we do in the course.”
