The interview process

The College uses competency based interviews along with other techniques which focus on the following issues:

• Relevant experience
• Attitudes and behaviours

Because your answers reflect your achievements and experiences, competency based interviews provide reliable information about your ability in relation to the essential areas of the job description. You may also be required to give a micro-teach or a presentation on your chosen specialism.

Preparing for your interview

There are a number of things that you can do to prepare for your interview including:

• Studying the job description and person specification to identify the essential requirements of the role.
• Think of 2 or 3 situations within the last 12-18 months where you have demonstrated a high level of achievement against some (or all) of the essential elements of the job.
• In preparing your examples, think about each situation:
  • How did it arise?
  • What were the key stages?
  • What was your personal contribution?
  • What was the overall result?
  • What did you learn from it?
